THE FOUNDRY CLOCK MAN
The completion of The Foundry Campus’ transformation was celebrated in 2017 with the installation of the “Foundry Clock Man,” a sculpture depicting an industrial-era worker pushing an oversized vintage clock, atop 25 Holden Street (The Sharpe Building) within Halstead Providence (formerly the Promenade Apartments). Clearly visible from Interstate 95, which is traversed by approximately 225,000 vehicles per day. The Foundry Clock Man was designed by world-renowned artist, RISD graduate, and RI native, Peter Diepenbrock. A tribute to Providence’s industrial past and to one of the first products produced by Brown & Sharpe, clocks.
The sculpture also celebrates the completion of the restoration and renovation of the last of 13 mill buildings on the Foundry’s 26-acre campus, which has been under the ownership of the Guerra family since 1968. The Foundry Clock Man has become an iconic work that serves as a beacon to all coming in and out of Providence.
